Movie Review: Transformers 2

I saw Transformers 2 twice yesterday back to back.
First I saw it in iMax but that was kinda a bummer because it wasn't the real iMax. I saw Star Wars when it premiered on the REAL iMax screen on Halloween night. So it had the huge screen and the crazy loud speakers. But I guess the guy who owns Harkins at the Arizona Mills Mall beefed with iMax so now he doesn't let regular movies get played in there cuz it cuts into his profits. So the iMax I watched it in had a superb picture but a weak sound system but the screen was way smaller than the REAL iMax.
After that, I checked it out on a regular Harkins theater in Chandler, AZ. The sound in the regular theatre was better than the iMax but I sat next to some dumb ass teenagers that would not shut up the whole time. I seriously almost snapped and told them to shut the eff up but I could tell they were kinda poor and I didn't want to embarrass them so I just tolerated it. I didn't get home until 12:30 AM.
I think the sequel was 100 times better than the first movie. Way funnier. Crazier action sequences. The fighting was awesome. I gave the first one a 10/10 but this second one was a 8/10 because there were certain things that bothered me.
::: Spoilers :::
One - They did a poor job of introducing the new characters. In the first movie they all introduced themselves to Sam one at a time. They could have done the same thing in the second movie when all the Autobots were in the hanger. When the jack ass guy who was appointed by the President showed up, that was a perfect time for them to introduce themselves. They could have foreshadowed their use later in the movie. Like have Sideswipe practicing his fight moves. And there was very little if any dialog between the autobots themselves. For example... who the hell was the Autobot that used the electricity to rebuild Optimus with Jetfire's parts?
Two - Too many silly characters. I think the Twins were fine, but Jetfire should have had a Gandolf quality to him. He was more like a clown than a wise old man. And then when he created a time bridge? Dumb... he is a Blackbird for pete's sake. He should have just went mach 10 and flew to Egypt with the people riding inside him. Sooooo dumb.
Three - What happened to the Twins? They just disappeared. Last time you saw them, they were walking under Devastator. And if they could combine as vehicles why not as an awesome robot so they could fight Devastator?
Four - If you can take out Devavstator with one shot off a rail gun? Why not Megatron or the Fallen for that matter?
Five - Duplicate Decepticons. I could not look past that. Never... were there duplicates in the Cartoon. Each robot was an individual. You cannot have more than one of the same Decepticon. If you can have 2 Bone Crushers, why can't you have 2 Megatrons?
Six - They failed to use Megatron again, for what he is... an awesome cannon. He should have transformed into some dope gun turret that the Fallen or Star Scream used to shoot back at all the tanks that were attacking. Or better yet, transformed into a great cannon to take the battle ship out before it hit Devastator with the rail gun. That would have left Devastator intact for a huge brawl with Super Prime.
Seven - And for all the awesomeness Optimous possessed, they failed to capture how bad assed he really was when he added Jetfires parts.
So with that said, this is my favorite action movie off all time but I feel that they didn't take advantage of certain things.

Our Nation's Debt
But Congressional Republicans aren’t, either. Judd Gregg recently held up a chart on the Senate floor showing that Mr. Obama would increase the deficit — but failed to mention that much of the increase stemmed from extending Bush policies. In fact, unlike Mr. Obama, Republicans favor extending all the Bush tax cuts, which will send the deficit higher.
This is a very interesting article about our nations debt:

Volume 4
::: Volume 4 :::Ominous 060 ::: 060
A familiar break. Probably most recognized as a Dr. Dre classic. I just played with it to see what I could come up with.
Ominous 059 ::: 059
This is my Robocop flip. This came out way better than my Conan flips. I was having a hard time with this flip at first but I eventually squeezed something out of it. One of my favorite flips so far. I probably should have tried to use it for a remix... but I got lazy.
Ominous 058 ::: 058
I did this beat when I first started trying to mess around with the synths in Reason. I also was trying to apply some of their tutorial stuff to some actually beats. That stutter effect was one of the little tricks they show you.
Ominous 057 ::: 057
Another beat I probably should have used for a remix. But this beat is old as hell and I just needed to move past it. I have a lot of acapellas but I couldn't see anything I thought this might line up. I was gonna use the Big Pun and Fat Joe Deep Cover vocals I had to freak this beat but I had a hard time getting the tempos to match up right.
Ominous 056 ::: 056
Same thing as beat 60. I just tried to take a flip that someone else used, the RZA, and flip a different kind of beat out of it. My drums are kinda weak. That kick was more like a toe tap.
Ominous 055 ::: 055a ::: 055b
Version A is the very FIRST beat I ever did. Seriously. Looking back at the program file, I couldn't even really figure out how I created it in Reason knowing what I know now. Version B was me spending about 20 minutes trying to generate a different beat using the same sound bank and synths. What I was gonna do was put a different movie or TV show quote in front of all my beats but I thought people would find that annoying. But David Allan Grier is the fukn man.
Ominous 054 ::: 054
Just another flip. I think this was some more taste of Honey but I ain't sure. Can't remember.
Ominous 053 ::: 053
I went through this faze where I was trying to flip a bunch of 80's stuff. Didn't go too well. The Conan beat started it. I ended trying to do a Tina Turner and a Billy Ocean flip. Those are floating around here somewhere. I still got more I am going to try. Some more TV show theme song flips.
Ominous 052 ::: 052 ::: King Mez Remix
My boy Dave, who is a 70's Classic Rock DJ, always schools me on the music. Always telling me what "real music" is. Most of the time I am in agreement. I ended up flipping so of what he gave me. He also converted me into a Dave Fogelberg fan. But I keep that in the closet. But on th ereal... that dude could write his ass off. Great music. Then the KING flipped it. Visit his page to hear the whole version.
Ominous 051 ::: 051
Something that bothers me is how a lot of movies will straight up refer to black people as niggers. It is not the presense of the word but it's use. Godfather was one of my favorite movies but I was really moved by that line about how niggers have to soul so let them do drugs. That shit fuct me up. And then all these motherfukers run around idolizing Italian Mafias.... never realizing that these same people who they idolize think nothing of them.
Ominous 050 ::: A ::: B ::: C ::: D ::: E ::: F
More of that damn Conan crap. But version C is not a Conan flip. That was just some violin loops I had laying around.
Ominous 049 ::: 049
This was from an Illmuzik sample flip contest.
Ominous 048 ::: 048
The beat is kinda busy but I liked it. I was trying different things in reaosn plugging different cables into different ports and stuff and ended up with this.
Ominous 047 ::: 047a ::: 047b
I think this was a Beat Meet flip. Where they give you a sound bank and you make a beat out of their samples. I can't remember.
Ominous 046 ::: 046
Another Beat Meet flip.
Feedback is always welcome and if you notice bad lnks or anything else wrong with the site, send me an email. I hope you enjoy the work.
Volume 03
::: Volume 3 :::I played around a lot with a bunch of different breaks and chops. But I finished this project before I could get a better grasp if mixing and mastering. I didn't know about using stereo spreads and compression while I was making these remixes so they didn't sound as good as they should have. I was still struggling with getting around in Logic Pro. Anyways....
I can't say I am a Aesop Rock fan. I have several of his albums and I do listen to them quite a bit. But I reserve the title of fan for those who have seen him live. Those who knew who he was before the mainstream music listener learned of him. Those who have understood and memorized his lyrics. Those who know his real name and where he started. I am what you would call a highlighter. You know, the kind of person that doesn't pledge a loyalty to a team but watches sports for the highlights. That is how I approach Aesop and many other artists.
It's kind of hard because when you are spending your time trying to get better at playing basketball, you end up watching basketball games a little differently from the normal spectator. Instead of just enjoying the game I look for a bunch of other things going on. As I try to finish my own projects I turn to guys like Aesop not just because I am interested in what he is saying, but what is is about what he is saying that fans are reacting to. To see if I might have any of that in my work.
BAZOOKA ::: 031a
This was a fun remix. The tempo changes up in the middle of the song so I got to use the global tempo change feature in Logic. Something i would probably never use for myself. My favorite line in the song was at the end, "....you don't want me smiling at your cameras." There isn't a version B yet because I wanna finish all the remixes before I go back and do few more variations.
NY ELECTRIC ::: 032a
A Jimi flip. If I looked harder I probably cold have found a better Hendrix break but I just used what I had. NY Piss Hiss Bleed Dolby Homey. I am def going to go back over this one. I know I could have come a little harder than this. Not a lot of change ups and I didn't freak the chorus at all.
EASY ::: 033a ::: 033b
This my favorite song on Aesop's Bazooka album. I like the chorus. You learn more when your mouth peice retreats. I can grab these kind of lyrics but lines like, "Upside down, I pick wigs for beetles," totally lose me. If anyone out there is an Aesop expert... I would love to be enlightened. Since I liked this cut so much I remixed it twice. I think I liked Version B better. I think it was a better chop. My kicks could have been better.
NO JUMPER CABLES ::: 034a
"Eyes spiraling back when he hit the mat, woke, first words, Oh it's like that?" Someone please enlighten me. What am I missing here? Burn train buffers. They only came to buff the name stuck to the train and that is a textbook page up in flames for my seeds. Corporate suits are erasing the real hip hop? That's what I am getting. Stop erasing my graf. Let me know if I am way off.
LIMELIGHTERS ::: 035a ::: 035b
"Pain cave uno, smoking a broke blue note." See... I was lost right on the first line of the track. Version A was the original beat and Version B is the beat after I mapped it to the remix and added a few elements to the beat. You can hear it is slowed down and I added a snare that had more of a clap sound. I like Camp Lo. This as a good collab. Chiba's line at the end was my favorite line mostly because of his flow. Right after he says "design'em" he says Aesop. I must have heard that line about 30 times before I realized what he was saying. Slap that Orangatang....
SUPER FLUKE ::: 036a ::: 036b ::: 036c
Three versions. I like B the best out of the three. But I still think I need to go back and try to do a better remix. Version A was an older beat I had and I thought it would go with this accapella but it didn't. I think the sample in version B came from an Illmuzik flip week or a Hip Hop Production contest kit.
COOK ::: 037a ::: 037b
Lyrically this was my favorite track. I understood everything he was talking about. I don't know which version I liked better. I think the chops for both of them came out dope but B could have had some EQ and Dynamic work done. The kick and snare are weak as hell. But I got lost in the break and stopped paying attention to the quality of the audio. I think A had the better arrangement but I liked the bop in version B. And I think Aesop's flow went over B better because you could focus on what he was saying since the beat wasn't screaming.
FREEZE ::: 038a ::: 038b ::: 038c
You didn't have to be listening too hard to tell that the chop in version A came from the same break I used in Cook It Up. Guess I just really liked that sound set. Version B was a beat I made on an airplane. It was actually a faster pace than what you hear but had to be slowed down to match Aesop's flow. And you didn't have to be listening too hard to tell version C was using the same sound set of version B. I think I ended up liking version C but it needs some mastering and engineering.
FAMOUS ::: 039a ::: 039b
I remixed this like 6 different ways. But I have only bounced two versions down. They sound similar but as soon as I get done arranging the other versions I will post them. I liked the message in this cong so I just kept trying to find the right beat but after auditioning like 5 different beats I couldn't get the sound I wanted. Maybe the others will sound a little better than these.
BABIES ::: 040a ::: 040b
I most def need to go back and redo these two beats. UGHH dot com had a big Shug Street Champ contest and I was gonna enter but to get an edge on the comp I wanted to chop Primo's original version and come up with a slightly different break. But... brag-rap is not my favorite kind of stuff to rap so I had a hard time writing a song about being the next Street Champ. I ended up missing the deadline. A cat named Breed Winna won the comp. I will try to come with an original chop instead of using my Primo contest chops. Stay tuned.
PACMAN ::: 041a
I got three different versions of this track but I really need to polish them up before I post them. Subscribe to my myspace page or my blog and and you will get a notice as to when I finish these.
11-35 ::: 042a ::: 042b
This was some dope back and forth. Version B was way better than A. Synths from scratch instead of some poorly selected and chopped breaks. But I got my MPC 2500 the other day so I think I can come with some better chops for these Aesop remixes.
MESSENGER ::: 043a
Still in progress... I got 2 versions but I might scrap them both and start over.
MARS ::: 044a
I think I do a better job with synths when I take my time but chopping soul samples is fun as hell. This arrangement was pretty simple but I think it came out pretty good. I ended up leaving the ending orginal because I could not get the tempo down.
KING MEZ SHIT ::: 045a ::: 045b
To round out this volume to end it on an even 45, this is my boy King Mez ripping one of my older beats. Smooth flow. Nice vocal layering. I can't take no credit for that. That was all him and his camp. I just volunteered the beat. Visit his myspace page to hear more of his work. version B is the instrumental after I ran some plug'ins over it to pump the kick and snare a little.
Aesop announced in his blog that Def Jux is releasing more accapellas so as soon as those drop I'll be all over those too. I had to stop to try and meet some deadlines for my other projects so as soon as I get some time, I'll get back at this.
Volume 02
::: Volume 2 :::Ominous 030 - Common ::: 030
I tried to lay an older beat over this acapella. But I only ended up liking the guitar part of the track. So I got rid of everything else and built around the guitar. I get a lot of complaints about the synth. But that is my favorite part of the track. A lot of times, I am making beats til about 3am. At that point I am so tired that everything starts sounding dope. So the first thing I do the next morning is wake up and listen to the last track I did to see if it still sounds good to me. This still got me hype so I left it alone.
Ominous 029 - Who Dat ::: 029a ::: 029b
This was for a contest but I never made the deadline. Version A has an annoying horn chop. I was focused on the bass line and I completely ignored how that hrons sound really slow and sloppy. But this was just for fun. Version B came out a lot better. The beat doesn't match AG's energy but the overall sound came out cool to me.
Ominous 028 - Nightmare ::: 028a ::: 028b
Another remix contest that I did not make the deadline for. I like the emcees flows but most of the rhymes are ass. The same rap about rap shit. I make money... I am ill... I smoke weed... I make hits.... blah blah blah. You can't drop a "no dose" line about how you don't sleep and think you dropped some heat.... seriously? All I am saying is if you gonna rap about being label nightmares I'd like to hear more rhymes about that instead of generic rap lines. Version A had a decent sample chop but Version B was all synths.
Ominous 027 - MOP ::: 027a ::: 027b
From the beginning I fuct this remix up. When I pulled the acapella off the record, I had too much weight on the turntable needle and I picked up all kinds of air. You can hear the hiss really bad at the beginning of the track. I tried to use a desser and it worked really well but I should have given MOP a little more respect and repulled the vocals correctly. Version B came out a liuttle better than A but my kicks are kinda off. I got lazy and gave up.
Ominous 026 - Inspecta Deck ::: 026a ::: 026b ::: 026c ::: 026d
Why do I have 4 remixes of this? First I used a beat I did from an Illmuzik Beat This contest. Then I just started lining up different beats I had that seem to go with Deck's flow. The timing of his flow makes it easy to chop beats too. Version C was my favorite flip and D was just the original Beat This beat entree.
Ominous 025 - Clipse ::: 025a ::: 025b
I remember when this song first came out. It was so different. No real melody. Just some raw ass percussive shit. It took over everything. I was in Hawaii and they was blasting this song. I still don't understand these underground producers that don't give the Neptunes their props because they are pop. They still pop out some dope street shit from time to time. And as far as production goes... if you can't recognize this guys are good.... well that might explain why you ain't getting no where production wise because you can't recognize dope production when you hear it. Version A was an attempt not to sample and Version B is my chops. I liked B a lot better.
Ominous 024 - Common ::: 024a ::: 024b
I had a rough time trying to remix this classic. The tempo was a lot slower than what I am used to. Version A was an older beat that I matched up to the vocals but Version B was a new chop. A lot of people sample Issac and used to the same break. I tried to use a different break from the same song that a lot of producers used to see what I could come up with. I like the beat but I don't think it compliments Common right. The piano is too crisp and Common is a little more gritty than some clean piano keys. Maybe not gritty but like the original song he is more of a funk guitar than he is a piano cat.
Ominous 023 - Cassidy ::: 023a ::: 023b ::: 023c
Man, lets get to it. Cass is one of my personal favs. The flow, the hunger, the attitude. There is gutter and then there is grimy. Cass gets the grimy crown. Anyone else is more gutter than grime. I really liked this song so I was bugging when I got the vocals. Version C came out to be my best version after my failed attemps with version A and B.
Ominous 022 - Nas ::: 022
Bravehearts. This was an older beat I had and I matched it up with this acapella. The original was so dark and murky I had to pump it up with some chops to make it something you could ride to. The original version was way too criminal.
Ominous 021 - Nas ::: 021a ::: 021b ::: 021c ::: 021d
One of my favorite RnB singers is Rahsaan Patterson. I like singers who have unique voices. I found his CD when I used to work for the Wherehouse music store. I chopped the hell out of his songs and really tried to find a place to use the samples. I experimented and just tried a few different things for fun. You know... a lot of people sample old soul so I tried to sample new soul. He has some great music. Look him up on iTunes and listen for yourself. I liked Version B the best even though that reversed snare sound can get a little annoying.
Ominous 020 - Nas ::: 020a ::: B ::: C ::: D ::: E ::: F ::: G
What can I saw. I was really trying to force this Conan Shit. I thought it was a fat idea... I just didn't execute well. It was an oder beat I was trying to shop and no one bit because the sound quality was so bad. I tried a bunch of different things so that is why there are so many different versions. A couple of instrumentals for you to spit over...
Ominous 019 - Nas ::: 019a ::: 019b
Another Illmuzik contest entree. I ended up using the beat for this remix. There are two versions but they are almost identical. The piano chop is the only real difference. You know I can't remix this cut without doing Jigga's. That is coming in due time.
Ominous 018 - Nas ::: 018
Starting out as an older beat, I traced it over these vocals and then I ended up changing the chops up completely from what it started as. I shoud have worked a little more with my drums but I got frustrated. The vocals were kind of sped up so I was having a hard time lining things up. So no matter what I did I couldn't get the drums to do what I wanted to I gave up.
Ominous 017 - Nas ::: 017
I tried hard as hell to get G-Unit to use this beat but I had no luck. I got the synth from a program called Massive. And that it was... Massive. I couldn't have anything else running when I had this application open. I played the synth and then chopped it. I spit over this beat myself but I laso thought it was a good for for this remix.
Ominous 016 - Nas ::: 016
Billy Paul. In the collection of records my pops gave me, I found some Billy Paul. He has some great music. You don't hear singers like him anymore. That is one of the coolest parts about crate digging. You find all kinds of good music. If I got signed to a major label, I would try my hardest to get Mr. Paul in the studio to do something new. I liked how this remix came out. Remixing a classic like this is hard because you have to come with the real. I should have taken some of the air out of the sample but I liked how the chops came out. One of my better remixes.
Volume 01
::: Volume 1 :::Ominous 015 - Afu Ra ::: 015a ::: 015b ::: 015c ::: 015d
This is one of my favorite artists. I was lucky enough to come across an acapella of his and I had to try and flip it. I ened up with a couple of different versions because I really wanted to pump something out that was as good as the original but at the time my skills and sound sets were hella limited. I even tryed to use a beat I created on my PSP using the Traxx Pad program. Here is what I came up with...
Ominous 014 - Mos Def ::: 014
Thie mighty Mos Def. One of the most talented brothas to ever grace the mic. Another acapella I was lucky enough to come across. This was from one of my favorite albums, DJ Honda's II, and this song, Travelin' Man was my favorite track. The acapella was the remixed version. I wanted to try a couple of different versions of this track but I got frustrated because I don't know how to make beats to compliment people singing. So I just used the best version I had.
Ominous 013 - Rakim ::: 013a ::: 013b ::: MOV
The "R". What can you say about the legend? I hesitated remixing anything by him because you have to come correct when you touch Rakim's stuff. Version A was a beat I did a while back ago and I just put the vocals over it but Version B was from scratch. I liked version A a lot better because I really liked the sample I used which came from Taste of Honey. One of the records my Pops gave me when he forked over his record collection. They have some great music. You should try and get
Ominous 012 - Rakim ::: 012a ::: 012b
I had a hard time with this remix because there is a heavy Bass drop mixed in the with vocals so you are have to deal with that when you remix it.
Ominous 011 - Das EFX ::: 011a ::: 011b ::: MOV
My favorite rap dup of all time. They Want EFX was the first song I ever destroyed. I played that tape until it snapped. I experimented with 2 versions. Just messing around.

Ominous 002 - Mobb Deep ::: 003 ::: 002
There is probably an unwritten rule somewhere that says you don't remix tracks by Havoc. These are two reasons why. You can't improve perfection. But I am trying to learn from the best so I follow in their foot steps. Havoc is one of the sickest producers out to me because he has a true sampler's style. In other words, he lets the sampe dictate what he will do. I on the other hand tend to do the same thing with different samples.
Ominous 001 - Jin ::: 001
My very first remix. The one I am the most proud of. Sure, at the time, I didn't know shit about producing. I still don't really. But I am light years ahead of where I was when I did this remix. The reason why I am so proud of this remix is because it was intentional. See most of my remixes are experimental. I am just trying different things. But this remix was born before I ever touched a beat machine or computer. The first time I watched Ghost in the Shell and I heard the soundtrack playing in the movie... the first thing I thought was... damn some one should make a beat out of this. And that is what made me start producing. You can't sit around waiting for Primo or Pete Rock to do everything.
Game Review: Darksiders
::: Their Forums :::I don't really hear much chatter about this game but it looks awesome to me. I am a fan of Joe Mad's artwork so a game drenched in his art style looks cool to me. I just hope it lives up to it's promise of being a perfect blend of God of War, Legend of Zelda and Devil May Cry.
So far the screens look great but I am really interested in the game play. This looks like a great hold over until God of War comes out.
The art seems to be a bit repetitive but I am not going to nit pick.
Supposedly June.... fingers crossed.

Blaq Poet!
Sometimes, Primo makes me mad.
Dope ass beat. Poet was always one of my fav emcees out of Screwball. I wonder what happened to the other cats in the group?
Gunkata
This thing is ill my dude....
How had this not been mass produced and popularized in the streets is beyond me. Is it too Swiss Army? Looks all purpose to me. I would take this thing camping.
Beat Boxing...
If anything, fast forward to the 3:00 mark for the ODB beat.
And this was also worth a look...

I usually have the TV on in the background while I work. But I find so many beat videos these days, I just have the beat video on in the background. So I can fit it all in. Besides, there isn't much on TV worth checking for these days anyway.
This is just one more of the many beat videos I have collected over time. I enjoyed it. Hope you do...

Crate Digging
Dope documentary about digging. Around 8:00 minutes in, Common has a freestyle session. MOs Def later in the film. For the most part I liked the documentary but some of these guys are hardcore purist and have rules about how you go about doind what you do. But I do not share some of these rules and ideas. Call me a Ronin...
